Community Biker Parade Supports Alive, Honors Father’s Legacy

When Jeff Swetman’s dad, Steve, an avid motorcyclist and Harley-Davidson enthusiast, was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer in July 2022, he turned to his community for support. Jeff, a rider himself, learned of motorcycles and the power of community from his dad.

The family was overwhelmed with medical bills from his illness, and while his father was receiving treatment, Jeff decided to organize a Biker Parade with his friends to assist with the costs. The fundraiser received an overwhelming response in support of Steve, with over 250 bikers in the region who purchased merchandise, donated, and spread the word.

When Steve’s health took a turn for the worse, he and his family chose Alive to care for him within his last week of life.

“Alive was there, caring and loving, from day one. My dad was in the best care he could’ve had. He went gracefully, not in pain. They made us, as the family, comfortable as well. I couldn’t have asked for a better last week for my dad.”

This past July, Jeff continued the second annual Biker Parade fundraiser in memory of his dad with the proceeds going to support charity care for other patients and families financially devastated by long-term illnesses. With the help of the community, they raised over $3,000 for those we serve.
