Volunteering with Alive is a powerful way to support hospice patients and their loved ones. We’re the region’s only nonprofit hospice, which means our volunteers are a vital part of our mission and how we serve our community.

Becoming a Volunteer
We work with volunteers ages 15 and up. We follow a detailed process when choosing volunteers, to ensure that we have the right people serving in the right roles:
- Step 1: Complete our Volunteer Application
- Step 2: Interview with Alive and complete trainings and background checks (as needed)
- Step 3: Orientation
- Step 4: Placement
Give emotional support, read aloud, and help with hobbies to ease patients’ loneliness and boredom. Companions may also help with shopping, cooking, and light housekeeping.
Help the Alive team with fundraisers and memorial events throughout the year.
Tell Me Your Story
Help create a legacy by capturing stories, reflections, and recordings of a patient’s life
Massage and Energy Therapy
Licensed massage therapists give comfort with gentle massages. Healing Touch, and Reiki-certified volunteers restore harmony to a patient’s energy system.
Provide continued support to caregivers after a patient’s death through phone calls or visits. Assist with workshops and camps for the bereaved.
Opportunities are available in all our offices (Nashville, Franklin, Hendersonville, Lebanon, Murfreesboro), and some projects can be done from home.
Make weekly calls to home patients to listen, offer support, and answer questions about care.
Owners of certified therapy pets bring them to visit patients in their homes and at our residences.
Sing and/or play instruments to share your gift of music with our patients.
Represent Alive in your community by leading or hosting education sessions.
Receptionists at the Alive Hospice Residence in Murfreesboro set the stage for a good visit by putting visitors at ease with a warm welcome.
Create afghans, shawls, quilts, lap blankets, memory items, and more to support and comfort patients.
Pet Peace of Mind
Help care for beloved pets when patients are too ill to manage on their own.
Licensed stylists offer their services in patient homes and Alive residences.
