Support Your Grieving Child Webinar

As a community, we are grieving for the students and staff killed in the shooting at Nashville’s The Covenant School. On April 6, Alive’s Grief Support Team is hosting two free information sessions, “Support Your Grieving Child,” to help parents support grieving children in developmentally appropriate ways. Thanks to our generous donors, this class is free. Register here.

 

Alive Butterfly Release 2023

This year’s Butterfly Release will take place June 10 in Nashville at Green Door Gourmet and will include memorial activities for the whole family. A special thank you to Olivia Daane for sharing her original artwork for this event. Stay tuned for more details: AliveHospice.org/Butterfly.

Grief Center Offerings in April

Finding Lost Words

Join us on 4/19 for this in-person writing workshop, helping participants cope with loss through self-expression. Guided by a facilitator, participants will engage in writing activities that culminate in creating a poem based on a provided prompt. Register here.

Eight-Week Grief Journey Groups Forming Now!

Grief Journey groups, led by grief counselors, launch on April 20The groups are for adults who have experienced the loss of someone significant to them and meet for eight consecutive Thursdays at 1:00-2:30 p.m. or 6:00-7:30m p.m. In-person and virtual options are available. Groups include:

  • Loss of Spouse/Partner 
    • Virtual or In-person (Nashville): Thursdays | 1:00 – 2:30 p.m. OR 6:00 – 7:30 p.m.
  • Loss of a Loved One 
    • Nashville (Virtual or In-person): Thursdays | 1:00 – 2:30 p.m. OR 6:00 – 7:30 p.m.
    • Spring Hill Public Library (In-person): Thursdays | 1:00 – 2:30 p.m.

A one-time payment of $80 covers the cost of participation for the 8-week series; scholarships available.

Labyrinth Walk

Facilitated by an Alive grief counselor, our Labyrinth Walk on 4/22 takes place at Glendale United Methodist Church. This age-old contemplative practice provides time to re-center and offers significant symbolism regarding the end-of-life and grief process. This time will conclude with a remembrance ceremony to honor the lives of significant people in our lives.

Get Your Life (and Death) Together!

April 16 is Healthcare Decisions Day, and we are co-hosting a casual meet up on April 27 to dispel fears and help community members plan. Small group-style chats with experts from Larkspur Conservation, Sunny Care Services and Alive will help participants clarify what they can do today to better prepare. Refreshments will be provided by Thistle Farms. Register here!

Walking Through Grief

Grief is anything but a walk in the park. Join us every Tuesday at 10 a.m. for a weekly walk at Brentwood Library walking path with Alive Grief Counselors and other grieving community members to connect with others and the healing that comes with being in nature.

Volunteers; grief camp; youthCalling Male Volunteers for Camp Forget-Me-Not!

Men, can you volunteer? Applications are now open for Camp Forget-Me-Not, for kids who have experienced a significant loss, and we’re looking for male volunteers to be “Big Buddies”! Camp will take place August 12-13 at the fabulous YMCA Camp Widjiwagan in Nashville. If you or someone you know is interested in helping guide campers through grief support workshops, please apply today: AliveHospice.org/Camps

Volunteers must be 18+ and undergo a background screening. Selected volunteers can sign-up to serve the whole weekend, or for a specified shift on a specific day. Help us spread the word!

Private Creative Arts Memorials

Looking for a unique way to honor your loved one? Alive’s Grief Sevices offers Private Creative Arts Memorials for groups of 10 or fewer with access to our Creative Room, menu of memorialization projects, supplies, and support from a grief counselor and activity facilitator.
