Giant Bunnies, Miniature Horses, and Dogs, Oh My!

We’re thrilled to have our therapy animal visits back on track after a COVID-mandated pause. These loving animals comfort children at our grief camps for kids and teens and make all of us smile even on the toughest days. Therapy ARC has been bringing joy and healing to our patients with these special visits for years. One patient, who had recently experienced a stroke, responded for the first time when a therapy dog came to visit.

Alive volunteer Robin Mahoney got hooked on therapy animal visits when she found that her dog offered families a friendly distraction and the chance to cope with their feelings.  She now brings her giant rabbits to Alive, and they love the chance to snuggle with our patients.

“I started volunteering with Therapy ARC 20 years ago with my sweet cocker spaniel, Nike, who just really needed a job and loved meeting people. I have also volunteered with my Flemish Giant Rabbits, Harley Quinn and Poison Ivy. The rabbits were amazing and enjoyed the visits. They snuggled right up in bed with the patient and seemed very relaxed.  It was such a great experience!”
