What is a Wind Telephone?

Have you heard? Nashville now has its first “wind telephone” for holding one-way conversations with the dead. This practice for processing grief originated in Japan, where wind phone booths offer space for reflection and staying connected with memories of loved ones. Messages are symbolically delivered on the wind.

Allison Young and her father designed their wind telephone booth in memory of her grandparents and have made it available to the public. We are grateful to them for this wonderful community service and for sharing our monthly calendar of Grief Center events at the phone booth. You can visit the booth at 1425 Rosebank Ave in East Nashville. Will you/have you used the booth? Tell us about it in the comments!
