At Alive, hospice nurses do more than care for patients—they create lasting memories, foster peace, and bring light to some of life’s most difficult moments. As we celebrate Nurse Appreciation Week, we’re sharing a few powerful stories that capture the heart of what they do every day.
❄️ One last snow. One unforgettable moment.
In Room 184, a patient quietly shared a final wish—she never thought she’d feel snow again. That night, our nurses brought in basins of fresh snow. With shaking hands, she built a tiny snowman and cried tears of joy.
“I never thought I’d feel snow again,” she said. This is the heart of our nurses—finding a way to say “yes,” even in the smallest moments.
💍 A daughter’s wedding. A mother’s final memory.
When a patient’s daughter was getting married, our nurses turned a hospice room into a wedding chapel—with donated flowers and a cake—so the patient could witness the moment.
It was intimate, emotional, and unforgettable. Because our nurses don’t just care—they create meaning.
🎂 Ms. Kitty’s 100th Birthday
Her nurse Katie coordinated a full birthday celebration at Grace House—ensuring her favorite aide Kayla was there and gifting her a purple blanket (her favorite color) as a royal cloak. 💜
“I’ve never had a birthday like this,” she said, beaming. Because when you love your patients, birthdays really matter.
💅 A weekly pedicure, a lifetime of dignity.
Nurse Destanie gives one of our 97-year-old patients a pedicure every week. She sits on the floor and chats about life while gently caring for her feet.
It’s not in her job description—it’s in her heart. 💙 This is the kind of care your support makes possible.
🩺 Devotion Like Candace’s
Some patients simply say, “Only Nurse Candace.” Candace’s attention to detail and deep care have earned the love and trust of an entire facility.
Our nurses become family—and sometimes, irreplaceable.
🌸 Never Forgotten
When a wave of patients arrived without family, our nurses brought in forget-me-not floral pins so every nurse would carry a reminder: no one gets overlooked.
Because being seen and remembered matters. That’s what our nurses do. 💚
📞 A Final Call of Comfort “He was peaceful. He wasn’t alone.”
Nurse Phyllis recently called a patient’s wife who couldn’t be present at his passing. She spoke gently, answered every question with care, and reassured her that he died peacefully, surrounded by love.
Sometimes the most meaningful thing a nurse gives… is peace.
These moments don’t make headlines—but they mean everything to the families we serve.
This week, we honor the nurses who turn ordinary days into unforgettable memories. They go the extra mile—literally and figuratively—to bring peace, comfort, and dignity when it matters most.
