Children’s Grief Awareness Day: Nashville Joins the Movement

Honoring Grieving Children and Teens with Community Support and Awareness

Children’s Grief Awareness Day

Today, we proudly recognize Children’s Grief Awareness Day, a time to honor and support grieving children and teens in our community. Grief can feel overwhelming at any age, but for kids and teens, it often comes with unique challenges.

This year, we’re thrilled to share that Mayor O’Connell has officially signed a proclamation recognizing Children’s Grief Awareness Day in Nashville! This important step shines a light on the needs of grieving youth and the resources available to help them heal. You can check out the proclamation for yourself in the photo below!

All Month Long: Flip the Script

November is Children’s Grief Awareness Month, and all month we’ve been participating in the Flip the Script campaign on our socials. This campaign challenges common misconceptions about grief and encourages more compassionate conversations.

If you haven’t yet, check out our social channels to see and share some of the campaign’s great info!

What Alive Does:

At Alive’s Grief Center, we believe that supporting grieving children isn’t just a one-day event—or even one month out of the year—it’s a daily commitment.

That’s why we offer programs year-round designed to help children, teens, and families navigate loss through counseling, support groups, and creative expression activities. We also work to educate others and raise awareness about the unique needs of grieving kids.

Why This Matters

  • 1 in 8 children in Tennessee will experience the death of a parent or sibling by age 18.
  • Grieving children need safe spaces to express emotions, find hope, and feel understood.
  • Community awareness helps break the silence around grief and ensures families know where to turn for support

Together, we can ensure no child grieves alone. 💙
