Alive Summer Newsletter 2024

Greetings from Kerry

Dear Friends of Alive,

It’s an exciting time to be a part of Alive. As the new CEO, I’ve had the privilege of getting to know many of you over the past two months, and I’m deeply grateful for the warm welcome I’ve received since arriving in Nashville. Every day, I’m inspired by the extraordinary care and dedication I’ve witnessed from our team. Alive is more than a healthcare provider; it’s a vital part of this community, and I’m honored to join this legacy.

Alive’s strong history provides a solid foundation for a promising future. As the oldest and the largest nonprofit hospice in Tennessee and one of the first in the nation, we’ve been leading the way in compassionate care for nearly 50 years and take our responsibility to our community to heart. Last year alone, we supported more than 10,000 individuals and families in our community through hospice and palliative care, grief support, and community education programs. More than 80% of our nearly 5,000 hospice patients received care in the comfort of their own homes.

What sets Alive apart is our commitment to going beyond the basics. As the ONLY nonprofit hospice in Middle Tennessee, every dollar we receive is reinvested into services that exceed expectations. We operate the region’s only inpatient hospice facilities, providing specialized care regardless of ability to pay. Our grief programs, including Camp Forget-Me-Not, help families and children heal, addressing the profound effects of unresolved grief on mental health.

Thanks to partnerships with nine community hospitals, we have one of the country’s largest hospital-based inpatient palliative care programs, ensuring the highest level of care during vulnerable moments.

This exceptional care is only possible because of your generous support. Your contributions allow us to continue our mission of providing compassionate care and support to those who need it most. Together, we are not just providing a service—we are making a difference, one life at a time. As we look to the future, we recognize the challenges ahead – regulatory challenges, reimbursement cuts, inflation, the rise of for-profit hospice competitors, and new alternative payment models. With your support, we are confident that we can navigate these challenges. For nearly 50 years, Alive has been dedicated to improving the health and well-being of our community. Will you join us in ensuring we can continue providing vital support to Middle Tennessee for the next 50 years?

I was intrigued by the name when I first heard of Alive over 24 years ago. Today, I fully understand why it is so fitting. Our services focus on helping patients and families live every day of their lives to the fullest. You are the reason we can support our community. We are proud to be your hospice of choice, and we believe your loved ones deserve the very best care. When it comes to hospice care, making the right choice is crucial. Let us be here for you and your family, providing the compassionate support you need.
