Welcoming Sylvia Jones, Alive’s New VP of Quality and Compliance

We are excited to welcome Sylvia Jones, MSN, RN, PhD(c), as Alive’s new Vice President of Quality and Compliance. Sylvia brings a rare and powerful combination of clinical experience, research expertise, and a deep passion for hospice care.
Sylvia’s career path has been anything but traditional. With a background in psychology and a love for statistics and research, she began her professional journey as a statistician for the state of Wyoming before feeling a strong pull toward nursing. She has worked in hospital settings, home health, and operational leadership, but it was in hospice that she found her true calling.
“I love that I can bring what I’m great at—using data to solve problems and create meaningful change—to a field I care so deeply about,” Sylvia says. “Quality and Compliance is the intersection of everything I’ve done, and it gives me the opportunity to help shape what great hospice care should be.”
Currently completing her PhD in Nursing at the University of South Carolina, Sylvia’s research focuses on using big data techniques like natural language processing and machine learning to enhance the hospice experience. She is committed to using data not just to meet regulatory standards, but to push the boundaries of what’s possible in end-of-life care.
Sylvia was drawn to Alive because of a statement on Alive’s Who We Are page “The moment I read that Alive seeks to create cultural change so that end-of-life is no longer taboo but accepted as a meaningful component of the human experience—I got goosebumps. That’s exactly what I believe, and I knew I had to be a part of this work.”
