Nashville Star Charles Esten Sings for Alive Patients with Musicians on Call

Published on March 21, 2019

Alive patients and family members at the Nashville residence had a wonderful surprise last fall when Charles Esten, “Deacon” on the hit series Nashville, stopped by to give private, in-room concerts to anyone who wanted one. Esten and his family made Nashville their home while he was acting on the show, and they have put down roots by giving back to the community.

“It’s a special experience. Every time I do this, there is always at least one patient who I know I was meant to connect with. The music makes that connection for us,” said Esten.

Esten is part of the Musicians on Call program, a Nashville-based nonprofit that brings musicians to health care facilities where they play and sing for patients. The music is therapeutic, evoking special memories and healing emotions.

Alive staff members and fans were delighted to have the opportunity to meet Esten in person. He had a warm hug and a smile for everyone.

“Thank you again for Mr. Esten’s visit! His music helped us openly express our emotions through tears and laughter. I have been a fan of his acting and music, but now, beyond that, I appreciate him as a man of tremendous compassion. We feel blessed!”
