Alive’s Institute Continues to Set the Bar for End-of-Life Education

The Alive Institute continues to grow as we bring our expertise in all aspects of end-of-life care to community members and professionals.

Symposium Now Offers Continuing Education Credits

In 2018, Alive hosted its most successful Symposium to date with nearly 200 attendees. For the first time, we provided CEU’s for social workers and nurses, and CME’s for doctors, nurse practitioners, and psychologists.

The Gift Initiative Adopted by Metro Library and Ascension Health

The Gift Initiative is a community education collaborative in Tennessee led by Alive to promote advance care planning for serious illness and end-of-life care. Alive trained more than 1,000 people through The Gift Initiative last year and facilitated its adoption by the Metro Public Library System and The Ascension Health System. Professional Training Expanded

Alive provides observational training experiences for students of medicine, nursing, social work, chaplaincy, and pharmacology. Under the direct supervision of Alive staff, these students learn best practices first-hand. The program nearly tripled in the last 18 months and continues to grow.

“An interdisciplinary approach to patient care truly cultivates holistic care for hospice patients. Each knowledge and skill set helps close the gaps that patients could fall through.”
–MTSU Student

Currently, Alive offers observational experiences for students enrolled in professional health care programs at Belmont University, Lipscomb University, Meharry Medical College, Middle Tennessee State University, Motlow Community College, Vanderbilt University, and University of Tennessee.

“Thank you for leading by example and for being approachable and outgoing. I am forever grateful for the amazing experience and opportunity.”
