Honors Loved Ones, Supports Community Programs
The ones we love will always be with us. Death doesn’t change that. One of the best things we can do for ourselves when we have lost someone is set aside time to honor and relive the joy we shared. New traditions can support us as we learn to live with our loved ones in our hearts instead of at our side.

Alive’s butterfly releases have become just such a tradition for many in the community. Each spring, we release butterflies in the gardens at our residences to welcome a season of new life as we pay tribute to those who have gone before. What started more than twenty years ago as a small gathering has grown into three events that serve a few hundred people. Many families find it so healing that they return each year.
The releases are free and open to everyone. We always set aside a basket of butterflies just to delight the children; they are enchanted by the magic of butterflies waking up and spreading their wings for the first time.
The releases also support Alive’s nonprofit services. When you make a purchase of butterflies, you contribute to community education, end-of-life training for professionals, grief counseling and special camps for kids who are healing from loss, and financial support for patients whose insurance doesn’t cover everything.
If you wish to contribute but cannot attend, your butterflies will be given to attending children to release for you.
Dates and locations:
May 4, 2019 – Alive Hospice Residence Nashville. Program begins promptly at 9:00 a.m. AND 11:00 a.m. Doors open 30 minutes ahead of program start.
May 11, 2019 – Alive Hospice Residence Murfreesboro. Program begins promptly at 10:00 a.m. Doors open 30 minutes ahead of program start.
