Every fourth Thursday of the month, a group of Alive Hospice volunteers gets together to help with our Alive Grief Support mailings. We send out a monthly mailing full of tips, encouragement and info about our grief support offerings for those who have lost loved ones, and we couldn’t do it without our volunteers!

When they gathered in February, we had a little something up our sleeves. Ms. Willie Wolff was turning 95 years old, and as she sat stuffing envelopes, in walked our president and CEO and our director of volunteer services with a cake and flowers.

We’ll never forget the look on Willie’s face as they sang “Happy Birthday”!

“I know we’re a little early!” one person said. Her birthday wasn’t for another week, making it the perfect surprise.

We asked her to share a few words about life and living, and here’s what she said:

“Look outward, not inward.”

Spoken like a true Alive Hospice volunteer.

Happy birthday, Willie! We love you, and we thank you for letting us be part of your life!
