Alive’s Memorial Butterfly Release at Home

Each spring, Alive’s community comes together to remember loved ones with a butterfly release. Butterflies symbolize our lasting love and the spiritual renewal of a new season.

For the health and safety of all, participants will release their butterflies at home this year, but we will still unite as a community remembering our loved ones. Share pictures and videos from your home release with us, and they will be included in this year’s memorial video.

Participate in Memorial Video: Even if you cannot participate in the release, email photos of the loved ones to whom you've dedicated your butterfly and photos/video clips of your at-home release to jpropst@alivehospice.org by July 15

Butterfly on a wooden sign

When is a butterfly house more than a house? When it’s a movement!

This year, for the first time, we are selling butterfly houses handmade by local craftspeople for Alive. You can buy a kit to build and paint your own or buy one that is finished.

The houses symbolize the space we keep in our hearts to go on loving and remembering those who have died. Join the movement, and display one in your yard or even share some with friends and neighbors!

“I bought 6 finished houses for all my neighbors in my cul de sac. Seeing them on our block reminds us we are not alone. My daughter and I painted our house in honor of my mother.” – Kimberly
“I bought 3 to build with my mother, my son and his cousin to remember my father.” – Mac
“My husband and I built and painted 7 houses with our teens who are looking for activities. We talked a lot about our family history, the people we miss, and how they still inspire us. We gave the houses to our favorite local businesses.” - Ali
